Hmm, no reason you should be fighting more than 3 elementals/furys at a time. Save maybe the encounter with a boss. Those are ussualy 3-5 encounters. You guys should take your time and separate the first few right after zone in. That's two groups not one. Bumble down that rise, and suffer!

Your party looks fine on paper. The 10mo/me alone should be able to keep your party alive. Have him give you mend and live vicariously. The stones will come straight for the monk so stay next to him. When surrounded, just start casting symbol of wrath, and whacking with frenzy to keep the monk healed by the Live Vicariously effect. Your sever artery doesn't work, so just land quick blows to keep the monk alive. The monk can symbol of wrath & chaos storm. The elementalist can fire storm. Cast those AoEs in succession, and those fights are easy.

As far as the elementalist, just let him sit back casting Fire storm and Flare. If he starts getting whacked, have the monk cast healing breeze on him, and that should keep him alive. You ranger hench... I would loose her (aggro magnet with that long range bow and no brain.) The only hench worth getting pre-Yaks is the healer IMHO.

OK, I'm also working on this quest, and am in similar straits. I've gotten past all the stone elementals, though, and am hitting a challenge going through the gate where I met my first Charr Blade Storm (ah, fond memories: "what the...? OW!"). Once on the other side of that gate, it seems there are DOZENS of Charr nasties lurking on a stone outcropping to the right, and I can't seem to pick them off without drawing more baddies from the valley floor. That's where I'm always dying.

I was thinking of seeing if there was a way to circle around and enter the valley from the north instead of the south. Is this viable? Or is there a better way of handling that valley?

Wow, that's really bad luck on althena's placement in your instance. I've helped a few people do that quest, and she is always closer to the breach than to the courthouse ;(

Anyway, yes, you can circle arround to the west, then north from that arch you're talking about. That's very bad news. Just back from the "arch-o-doom" take the first right up the hill, and take the first road north. If you get to more ruins w/ gargoyles, you missed the N turn. Then follow back to the east, and you'll run into the Courhouse. That's a new map travel spot. It has higher lvl henchmen, and some skills. It's easier to do daughter's & ashes from there anyway.

One thing to remember though, if you haven't found Althena by the time you get to that arch-o-doom, your chances are slim unless you're uber. Best to reinstance the zone than to deal with 10+ char w/ 3 lvl7 shammans healing up a storm. Then again, you have to do exactly that later in the temple corridor for ashes. Tha's good practice for what's to come
